A new fabric with 88% recycled waste

At Marina Textil, we have been working on a circular economy project that has allowed us to create a new fabric that can utilize up to 88% of waste that, until now, was discarded during the industrial process.

With this new advancement in fabric manufacturing, we have estimated that we could reuse up to 5,500 kilograms of textile waste annually.

This project has been carried out with the support of the Government through ACCIÓ (the agency for business competitiveness under the Department of Business and Employment) and the Waste Agency of Catalonia, under the Department of Climate Action, Food, and Rural Agenda.

A Circular Economy Project in the Textile Sector

The circular economy is an economic model that seeks to optimize resources and reduce waste, promoting the reuse and recycling of materials. In our case, we have integrated this approach through an advanced separation and recycling process, developed in collaboration with the Eurecat technology center.

The process allows for the breakdown of different layers of fabric composed of membranes and polyurethane adhesives, which are then reintegrated into the production of a new yarn. This new yarn, incorporated into a technical fabric, contains 90% virgin fibers and 10% recycled fibers.

The result is a technical fabric for personal protection that aligns with our sustainability goals. With this new technology, we estimate that we will be able to reuse more than 5,500 kg of textile waste per year, a significant figure that contributes to reducing the overall environmental impact of the industry.

Reduced Environmental Impact

One of the most remarkable aspects of this project is its ability to reduce environmental impact. With this advancement, we can reduce the pollutant emissions associated with our production process by 49%.

This reduction not only means less physical waste ending up in landfills but also a significant decrease in CO2 emissions generated during the production of technical fabrics. This advancement represents an important step in the transition towards a more sustainable and responsible textile industry.

Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability

Since our beginnings in 1992, Marina Textil has focused on the production of specialized technical fabrics, particularly in the field of flame-retardant protection. This new fabric not only has the potential to expand our range of sustainable products but also reinforces our commitment to continuous innovation and the circular economy. This progress has been made possible thanks to our R&D team and the support of institutions such as ACCIÓ and the Waste Agency of Catalonia, which have supported this project with significant funding.

As we advance in this project, we remain dedicated to providing high-quality products that not only meet the technical demands of our customers but also reduce the environmental impact of various processes.
